You will love this one. It is simple, it is silly, and you won't be able to get it out of your head once you heard it (it is like an unholy combination of Schnebbs, Alyxyn and Nargipoofufu although probably a little less damaging on the long term...). Now... is that scummy or isn't it? Get ready to smile the rest of the day
(it comes in many translations already, here you can find the original version and here you can find the Dutch version the others you can search for yourself)
And no, the title is no mistake ;-)

Wise words that every little kid should know.
Really, sit it all out. The wisdom will dawn on you.
I was driving in my flashy red car without my sweet girl listening to some of my music collection and then it hit me: instead of doing a special on just particular artist I will do a Various Artist one.
So, a couple of songs were buzzing by on my radio when this one came along:
Idlewild - No Emotion
I was going for another song, but there's only crap live versions of it, and this is from the same album, Make Another World. It's the only album I have of these guys, but they sure have a lot of fun!
Another one is a recent discovery. I am not familiar with the original, but this is a very good cover, I have been told:
Triggerfinger - I Follow Rivers
A lovely Belgium cover of an Icelandic singer's song. Beautiful!
This band deserves their own column, but for now this will have to do:
Arcade Fire - Sprawl II (Mountains Beyond Mountains)
I really love Arcade Fire. I will do them most justice soon.
Then there's another Belgium band that came by on the MP3 player. This is not their most famous songs, far from it I think. But it is wonderful:
dEUS - Dream Sequence No. 1
Just love Tom Barman's voice.
Since Belgium has a lot of impact on this column this week, I will post a recent find of mine, The Me In You:
And since Ciciz has been annoying the heck out of me the last few days with this song, I will share it with my fellow scum bearers, mwoehahahaha!
Bjørn Hellfuck - Krabbeklo
Yes, it's Norwegian. Yes, it is about crab claws. No, I don't have the phone number of the big busted girls in the video.
So, I hope you enjoyed this installment. Now go back to work, you slackers! There's a dungeon out there with our name on it!
Cheers

I think Nargipoofufu has died. So I present you some funnies instead of the normal broadcast...
WARNING: The following vids will make you giggle and are also slightly NSFW
Thank you Iola for this giggle. And to close of this weeks Music to Die for, I give you JAPANESE ZOMBIE HORROR
If you happen to see Nargipoofufu around, don't hesitate to kick him in the lower back part and tell him to "GET BACK TO WORK"
Today is a special day. I am going to share with you one of those artists you might have heard of but always were afraid of listening to. That, or you are a big fan already.
I give you Tom Waits. Now, instead of doing the copy from Wikipedia-bit and steal all of your fun, I'll just let you look him up yourself but instead I will tell you a bit about how I found out about him.
Way back in the day, dunno, 10 years or more, I discovered Tom Waits, a voice sounding "like it was soaked in a vat of bourbon, left hanging in the smokehouse for a few months, and then taken outside and run over with a car." (as described by critic Daniel Durchholz). I think it was the album "Rain Dogs". Seeing as there are no videos as of yet in this column, I might as well pop one in now:
Tango Till They're Sore
And since it's such a brilliant album, here's another one:
Walking Spanish
Now, you have to realise this is somewhere in the middle of his vast repertoire. I won't post one of every CD, since I would use up all the allocated bandwidth, so instead I will let you listen to a song from his earlier days, namely from "Small Change". Excuse the funny banter in the start.
The Piano Has Been Drinking, Not Me
And the man is still busy to this day. The same-titled track from the 2011 album "Bad as Me":
Satisfied
Now, I hope you will go out and listen to some more of this man. He is one of the greatest artists this world has ever known… No, really!
In a couple of weeks the first Festival of the year, Paaspop in Schijndel, opens their gates again. And of course I’m going to be there. Why? Because it is FUN! Yes, that is right, good music, beer, bad food and hopefully good weather is my idea of fun!
I noticed a lot of you lowlifes have an opinion about music and about the bands that pretend to play that music. Some of usefull opinions, some not so usefull opinions, but always entertaining. So i figured it might be time for an experiment: "Music to Die for, the Festival Edition".
I present to you "The List". A list of all the bands that are announced to play at Paaspop so far. So tell me scum... Which band should I go see and why? And now, we decent into the realm of madness, of hysterical laughter and helium balloons. No, I am not talking about Alyxyn's underwear or AAylia's dungeon, I am talking about one of the best stoner rock bands of the history of, well, man.
I am talking about Monster Magnet! *cue thunderclap*
OK, since the crickets and tumble weeds make it obvious you have no clue as to whom I refer, here's an example of their legendary work, from their first album "Spine of God":
Medicine
And, on their second album "Superjudge" they really found their groove and released this song, which even got them a little airplay on certain radio stations:
Twin Earth
Now, you can see where they got the stoner rock part from. Now, since you must be using Wikipedia as we speak, I'll make it easy on you and just put that info down here, now shall I.
Monster Magnet is an American stoner rock band. Hailing from Red Bank, New Jersey, the group was founded by Dave Wyndorf (vocals and guitar), John McBain (guitar) and Tim Cronin (vocals and drums). The band first went under the name "Dog of Mystery", "Airport 75", "Triple Bad Acid" and "King Fuzz" before finally settling on "Monster Magnet", taken from the name of a 1960s toy made by Wham-O, which Wyndorf liked when he was a child.
There. Can we continue playing loud music? OK, now, for my next song I would like to apologize to Santa, it seems they killed his party, from the album Dopes to Infinity:
Dead Christmas
Sensing a theme here? Yes, I am doing one song from each of their albums. Next one is from the album "Powertrip". Great CD inlay, you just have to see it to believe it.
Temple of Your Dreams
They made quite a few albums, these guys. Next a song from "God Says No". Not their best album, but it still has a little gem:
Kiss of the Scorpion
Next album is "Monolithic Baby!". I have found a decent live performance of one of their songs here:
Supercruel
Guess they had played a couple of songs before, eh. *heh*
Onto the next one! This would be a song from "4-Way Diablo". Guess they are way ahead on Blizzard North with that one!
Blow Your Mind
And finally we get to the last album to date, "Mastermind". My answer? Meh.
Gods and Punks
And since I can't go out on this bad a song, here's one of my personal favorites:
Black Balloon
Phew, that's done! See you next *insert probability of column's reoccurrence here*!
Seeing Narc is totally letting us down again, I figured it was time for some alternative column this week until musical Narc will be back on earth. There is a lot of bad music in the world. But somehow it gets better with muppets.
This has been (or still is?) a song you couldn't get around on dutch radio (so i stopped listening to radio) But get in Elmo and you get an enjoyable ensemble:
Even bad music from porno, or pseudo-documentary as they called it themselves, is better with muppets. Although we kinda missing the nudity i guess.
"Mah Nà Mah Na" debuted as part of Umiliani's soundtrack for the Italian mondo film Svezia, inferno e paradiso (Sweden: Heaven and Hell [lit. Hell and Heaven]) (1968), a pseudo-documentary about wild sexual activity and other behaviour in Sweden. The song accompanied a scene in the film set in a sauna which gave its original title "Viva la Sauna Svedese" (Hooray for the Swedish Sauna).
There! Useless information and bad music. My work here is done.
Meh, I am feeling rather pooped from my new assignment. I really want to post something good for you people but I can't bring myself to do a full column.
So, here's something to keep you entertained:
[GhettoEdit]
If that is all... then let's add some Marilyn Manson for good measure
I was listening to Jango (an online music station) and I couldn't help but noticing this song which came by:
Of course, you have all heard of Jack White. The White Stripes had a monster hit with "Seven Nation Army" couple of years back. But this time I would like to put the other guy in the spotlight, Danger Mouse.
I already knew him from his band Broken Bells, of which I will show some more videos later on, but first a nice little song featuring Norah Jones:
Yes, it's not as polished as it could have been, and I like that. Nowadays we turn away from our roots and just don't seem to appreciate the true beauty of a natural voice or just a guitar.
Now, onto Broken Bells. They have only made one album so far, but I do hope there's more to come.
The High Road was somewhat of a winner for him, but only topping at 15 in the American charts. Then again, I normally don't really go for the bands with success. ;)
Next song is "The Ghost Inside", also not so much a great success, but a very pretty song nonetheless:
They released an EP in 2011, of which this song is taken from:
Sounds a bit Klaxonish to me. Excellent, I love Klaxons.
Last song for today is "October". Long wait to said month, but here's the video all the same:
That's it for this week. I know, no crying. Maybe there'll be another column next week!
Let's try to get this column rolling again. For today's music I have chosen one of my recent-aqcuired loves, The Phantom Band. Hailing from Glasgow, they have been together from 2002 onwards but their current band name was adapted in 2009 when they released their debut album "Checkmate Savage". Their second album "The Wants" came out in 2010 and that was when I discovered them.
I have a selection of songs for your listening pleasure. It might take some getting used to, but I am pretty sure you will like at least one of them.
After my epic fail of last week i have now reverted back to my one true love: notepad.exe... At least it won't let me down, right, Mr Notepad?
Since Wednesday is upon us it is my turn to torture your ears with some music, and after hearing Kamipoo's invention for poor round Quilp I think it's time for some proper lovin' for the old ears.
I know I promised our dear warghlord some time ago, and seeing Xmas is around the corner, I thought I'd give this band a spin. Ladies and gentlemen (as if), I present to you the band you have all been waiting for... *cue drum roll*
The Strokes
Booh, hiss... wait, what? They really are good! It's just, umm. A bit, different? Yes, that's what they are. Different. Odd maybe. Downright silly. But before I get into all that, here's a song to start you off:
Machu Picchu
Voice scaring you? It should! That's the voice of Julian Casablancas. Love it or hate it, I guess. Personally, I can't get enough of it. It's got a teasing quality that draws you in. The band started out in 1999 in New York and has made 4 studio albums, of which Angels (2011) is the latest installment. Rumours of an upcoming 5th album are also flying.
Even though Angels is really good, I have gotten really attached to Is This It, which happens to be their first album. One of the songs of that album is the following
The Modern Age
Funky as shit, right!
And seeing as they are pretty decent as a live band, here's a fun one for ya:
Barely Legal
They have made some decent video clips as well, as you can see in this song:
Under Cover Of Darkness
On second thoughts... damn that is one sucky video clip. Heh. Anyway, to finish things off, a song of their album First Impressions of Planet Earth, also a damn good one if I may say so:
Electricityscape
Cheers Nargoth
P.S You want more, don't you... Okay. Here's a live version of Life Is Simple In The Moonlight... He sounds a bit, umm, odd...
Silly old me, asking in guildchat if people had any requests for today. Iola suggested things like Celtic or Indian or what not. World music. Burgh. But then I started thinking and there /is/ a band that would fit the Indian concept quite nicely. May I present to you, from the bowels of the Old Country, a band I have known and loved for a long time: Kula Shaker.
Its four members use a variety of instruments, like guitars, bass, drums and stuff. What? Oh, and sometimes they pick up the old sitar, tamboura and tabla. It's like the Beatles never got out of their Lucy in the Sky of Diamonds trip!
Right, I had finished the column and pushed "Publish Post" and all I got was a 404 Page not Found, eating up all my wit and work, so I am not gonna be arsed trying to recoup my funnies, so instead you will get the quick-and-dirty guide to Kula Shaker. If anything, blame the internetz.
Hush
Hey Dude
Govinda
Ballad of a Thin Man
Now let's hope next week I won't have this silly problem. I kept my promise, more guitary thingies, and next week maybe even more guitary thingies!
My one reader might have noticed I have a thing for British bands. Call me old-fashioned, but I like the Beatles better than the Rolling Stones. Unfortunately for me, one of the best bands of all times originates from the States and is called The National. Hailing from Ohio, the 5 members of the band are currently recording in Brooklyn, New York. I don't know what to say about this band besides the fact it's absolutely brilliant. They have a certain British working-class sound but without the depressing Oasis lyrics. There's a certain hopefulness in them.
The first song I heard of The National was Mistaken for Strangers on the now-defunct radio station KinK FM. I will share it with you, my reader, for your listening pleasure.
The baritone voice of Matt Berninger makes for a nice change in a world of crappy vocalists these days, and the music is just, well, spot on.
A nice, easy song of theirs is Slow Show. It's live as far as I can tell.
From their 2010 album High Violet comes this jewel called Anyone's Ghost:
The last song I'd like to share with you is Cherry Tree off of the album with the same name. Not the loudest or hardest of songs. But it's not that kind of band.
Next week I promise I will do something more guitary. After all, music has so many fun aspects and there's so /much/ music to cover!
Not to scare my one reader away, I have decided against another round of Dutch music and will go for something else: Elbow.
Now I must admit I had never heard of this band until I heard the song Grounds for Divorce on KinK FM. I will start off with this clip, although this song is actually not really in the same style as the rest of the album.
Grounds for Divorce
I got the album and it's really one of the best albums that has come out in that year (2008). The band itself hails from England and formed in 1990. Together they have made 5 albums but the last one wasn't up to par with the 4th one, The Seldom Seen Kid.
I will now present you with one of their finest songs. You can take your ladyfriend out to dinner on this song.
Mirrorball
And since I can't stop the sappiness, here is their best-known track.
One Day Like This
And because I can, here is my all-time favourite of them.
An Audience With The Pope
That's it for this week! Hope you all enjoyed it some. Join me next time, because I have still a lot of music left.
Right. I will post a quick something on a Dutch band most of you will never have heard of but who make fun songs and even funnier video clips. Let me present to you El Pino and the Volunteers. Hailing from the same city our Ghetto is trying to hide from the police, Rotterdam, they have made four studio albums, of which The Long-Lost Art of Becoming Invisible is the latest edition from 2009.
The musical style is alternative rock blended with Americana. I will kick off with that I think is their most hilarious video clip:
There is No Cure for Stupidity
Another happy upbeat song of theirs is this one:
Black and Blue
And to finish off I have a quiet night cap of a song, a lullaby if you wish:
Wake Up
Next week I might have more Dutch goodies for you. Stay tuned for next Wednesday (or Thursday ;) ).
I'm a day late, because I really couldn't keep my eyes open after a hard day's work yesterday. So, please accept my apologies and let me make amends by introducing to you some easy-listening. I never got to see them live, but Charlie Hunter is on my short-list of people to see before I croak. Born on the 23rd of May 1967 in Rhode Island, he was to become of the greater guitar players of his time (which is now!). He received guitar lessors from Joe Satriani en started playing on a 8-string guitar, on which he plays the basslines, rhythm guitar and solos. Nowadays he switched to a 7-string guitar and a Hughes & Kettner Tube Rotosphere with which he achieved to imitate a sound similar to a Hammond organ.
He started out his musical carreer in The Disposable Heroes of Hiphoprisy, of which this is the first video:
Disposable Heroes of Hiphoprisy - California Uber Alles
After that he quickly went the way of jazz and made a couple of albums either as the Charlie Hunter Trio or Charlie Hunter Quartet. I will now post a couple of his songs, and I hope you like them as much as I do. It's something else, that's for sure.
Natty Dread
If 6 Was 9
Come As You Are
High Pockets and a Fanny Pack
That's it for this week. Please join me next week when I will dedicate this column to jodeling and Gregorian nasal chants... or something else entirely.
Since I am having such a gay old time with Indie music, here is another band which has caught my ear, quite out of nowhere to be honest.
Doves is a British Indie band hailing from that aptly named county Cheshire (Ciciz made me put that in, honest!). They aren't that well-known but they did score a modest hit with Kingdom of Rust in the movie Zombieland. I'll start off with that song straight away:
One of my favourite songs of that 2009 album Kingdom of Rust has to be Winter Hill:
I'll top this session off with a bit of a nice upbeat song of theirs, House of Mirrors:
That's it for this week. Hope I am still on time! :)
