Dungeonparty: Zenith D25 - D30 (Update D30)

Looks like the Zenitheers and our Scum are having a great time so far.

D25: Here you can see Grandmother Z playing  with the "creatures" at the Monster Kindergarten

D26: And here you can see our Blind Bat Joe facing one of the more mellow horrors in the form of Bat Hags.

D27: G33k showing his love for trannies at the Wild monster party. Look at those ogre brothers go. They didn't stood a chance against r34lg33ks dance moves though.

D28: Here Woopydoo shows Ungarth that it isn't the size of the weapon, but what you do with it that is important. The poor merciless soul will probably never get over it. Oh well, can't say we have much sympathy for graverobbers anyway.

D29: Iola told me she felt quite at home when she was fighting that cybernetic zombie in the crypt of the undead. But then, she IS into steampunk. Look at her evil grin as she finishes the masterpiece of frankensteinesque steampunk. Badness is still bored out of his mind though...

D30: Sometimes Iola isn't very nice. She saw metal and decided it was hers to take down. She knew Badness was getting rusty and wanted some action too, but clearly she didn't care. Yep, sometimes she is not nice at all.

Cinderella once cleaned for all her days,
so nice, neat and trim is how it now stays.
I'm fairly sure that she's repressed
Because once I got her undressed,
she was anal in some very different ways.

ScumFlash: Badness reached insanity

And we have another one. This time it is Badness that reached the insanity that is level 300. Congratz! Let's hope you saved some dungeons to get out to that xp pit of despair!

In my mail sits a wonderful note that Aaylia sent me.  It contains links to dozens of comics .. a lot of which I've visited, some of which are also on my list and this one, which is new to me.  It's not a series, it's a simple panel comic .. easy to read and digest .. snicker and move on.  Kind of like the daily funnies in your newspaper.  Hmmm .. I bet a lot of you don't get newspapers anymore.  Anyway .. here's a few panels to enjoy.

This comic has been around since 2001, so you'll see lots of references to new gear like gamecubes, xbox, PS2 and new games like Diablo II if you read from the start.  It's great to a giggle about.

ScumFlash: Coat of Arms

So we got a Coat of Arms. I did my best to make it portray how I see our band of scummy lowlives with Gob's classic words in mind. Bloody, wielding double daggers and totally oblivious to the world around him/her.

But seeing you are scum, you might think you can do better. And that is fair enough. Everybody can make their own Coat of Arms, and suggest it to be the new one. But, unless you are in chat as someone suggests a new one, it is kinda hard to see them at all. So, how can we make use of your scummy inspiration? Simple...

If you have inspiration then go ahead and make your own Coat of Arms, if you are satisfied with it, make a screenshot and send it to me @ very hot mail, the commercial one (come on, that shouldn't be too hard to figure out). As soon as I get a couple of worthy Coat of Arms, we'll hijack Furks poll and let you scum choose the best ones. And yes, even non official scum,  hey Endless, Pwnies and Zenith (I think we lost Beer), are more then welcome to vote. Hell, they're even welcome to send in their own idea for a Severed Tongue Coat of Arms.

Decapitation Contest

Today I decided to delve into the dark side of Mordor ... and the evils that people do when they are obsessed with the doing of creatures of imagination. The first is gentle, an amusing antidote of a DM that tries so very very hard to get his group of roleplayers to seriously embark on his epic journey into Mordor. This story is even more funny by the comments under the comic itself, and the recollections of the readers.

As I continued my journey into the heart and soul of obsession, a very creative woman tells the truth about the whole tale, uncovering those hidden diaries that Cassandra Claire wrote an epic series of blogs, which should come with a warning, what is once read cannot ever be UNREAD... Enjoy!

So here is the challenge I offer to you this week. Take this simple picture (or pick another of the lovely fellowship of the ring) and imagine if they were planted in the guild of The Severed Tongue for the week, trapped in the glen where we live, watching our battles. WHAT would they say. What is their reaction? perhaps tell a bit of background - explain what happened in guild chat to get that reaction. Have fun, get silly, and lets see if we can stand up to these two excellent creators of the ditties I showed above.

poetry was missed
as yesterday was tuesday
please come back next week.

The world waits for no man (or gnome, though we're working on that), and not even Ghetto's disappointed "tsk tsk tsk"ing can divert my attentions from the mountainous tasks at hand. (and I never said ALWAYS on deadline, just USUALLY. =p) Believe me, it's been hard enough getting through my thirst for the past 10 days. Things should be back to more "normal" next week, so I'll soon enough be back to playing piano in the guild hall.

Cheers!

Where was Torpedo?

Weapon of Choice:

Dagger (obviously)
1 (5%)
Flying Sheep
4 (21%)
AK-47
3 (15%)
Holy Hand Grenade
3 (15%)
Two Daggers (duh!)
5 (26%)
Tactical Nuclear Penguin
7 (36%)
Duct Tape
3 (15%)
Chainsaw (w/ massacre)
1 (5%)

Votes so far: 19

Weapons! Glorious weapons! We all love weapons, that much is clear. Though some receive more love then others.

Beer. That is scum's weapon of choice. Yes, I know it says Tactical Nuclear Penguin, but it is a beer name... so it is kind of a double win. It is clear, we are all playing the right game. Some of us also remembered what Guild we are in, and voted the double daggers. You make the founders proud I'm sure. Third highest was Flying Sheep. Which means that people either love the old computer game Worms, or they just thought flying sheep was funny. Or potentially thought it was a Monty Python reference, but let's be honest, that would have been a cow, or maybe a giant wooden bunny. Of course, I couldn't leave off some of our guilds favorite weapon of choice: duct tape. Unfortunately, many of us have been victims at some point. I'm pretty sure I still have scarring from pulling it off.

The Way of the Samurai is found in death. When it comes to either/or, there is only the quick choice of death. It is not particularly difficult. Be determined and advance. To say that dying without reaching one's aim is to die a dog's death is the frivolous way of sophisticates. When pressed with the choice of life or death, it is not necessary to gain one's aim.

We all want to live. And in large part we make our logic according to what we like. But not having attained our aim and continuing to live is cowardice. This is a thin dangerous line. To die without gaming one's aim is a dog's death and fanaticism. But there is no shame in this. This is the substance of the Way of the Samurai. If by setting one's heart right every morning and evening, one is able to live as though his body were already dead, he gains freedom in the Way. His whole life will be without blame, and he will succeed in his calling.

The excerpt above is from The Way of the Samurai and you can see the full text following this handy and elegantly wrought link.  It gives a sort of subtext to an often misunderstood bit of Japanese culture ... the samurai and his role in feudal society.

Samurai's Blood is in its infancy as a webcomic, but shows a great deal of promise.  The opening scenes, which are sure to be a prologue to a much wider story, tell of the munificence of a Japanese leader, one that his family will shortly come to regret.  You cannot help but admire the enlightened thinking of the man.  And you cannot fail to be caught up in the skullduggery, plots and underhanded shenanigans that make up political ambition in Asian feudal culture.

Samurai's Blood has all the earmarks of a great thriller.  You know it's like an onion before you start; you know that careful peeling of the layers will reveal more layers of subterfuge and tears.  The smart thing to do with an onion is quickly dissect it .. but wherever there is a blade .. there is a samurai wielding it.  Be careful.

Tom Waits

Today is a special day. I am going to share with you one of those artists you might have heard of but always were afraid of listening to. That, or you are a big fan already.

I give you Tom Waits. Now, instead of doing the copy from Wikipedia-bit and steal all of your fun, I'll just let you look him up yourself but instead I will tell you a bit about how I found out about him.

Way back in the day, dunno, 10 years or more, I discovered Tom Waits, a voice sounding "like it was soaked in a vat of bourbon, left hanging in the smokehouse for a few months, and then taken outside and run over with a car." (as described by critic Daniel Durchholz). I think it was the album "Rain Dogs". Seeing as there are no videos as of yet in this column, I might as well pop one in now:

Tango Till They're Sore

And since it's such a brilliant album, here's another one:

Walking Spanish

Now, you have to realise this is somewhere in the middle of his vast repertoire. I won't post one of every CD, since I would use up all the allocated bandwidth, so instead I will let you listen to a song from his earlier days, namely from "Small Change". Excuse the funny banter in the start.

The Piano Has Been Drinking, Not Me

And the man is still busy to this day. The same-titled track from the 2011 album "Bad as Me":

Satisfied

Now, I hope you will go out and listen to some more of this man. He is one of the greatest artists this world has ever known… No, really!

Cheers
Nargoth

What's the big deal with people posting their columns when they're supposed to?  So you met your deadline... yippee skippy freakin' diddly doo for you.

I guess you got tired of the gnome showing you up every week, eh? Amateurs...

anyway, a continuation on the current theme:

Rapunzel's a girl I'll always adore
(she's hot and she's lonely; who could want more?)
I didn't show up with escape plans to hatch
only to see if the drapes and carpet match ...
and to my delight, I found hardwood floor.

What do you mean these polls are suppose to be regular? Truth is, I just felt like I was making all the other writers look bad so I let my poll slide for a week or so. Yeah.... that's it.

X-Men for the win! Certainly a trilogy I enjoyed but with to many quibbles to get my vote. A close runner up with the new Batman series, and who can argue with that? Those movies amaze me. Many bad selections got no votes, and thank goodness... some of those movies are just terribad. Having said that, whoever voted for TMNT.... I <3 you.

Today I'm introducing you to a special brand of swords and sassery.  If you love movies like Army of Darkness or Hellboy, you're going to feel right at home with this brand of banter and violence.

Skullkickers is an Image Comics series that's been running since September 2010. Each week they serialize five pages from their issues, bringing you into the world of mercenary monster mashers in their endless search for fame and fortune.

This is an 'easy read' webcomic.  The pace is good, the banter is sharp, the blades are fast.  It doesn't take you years to catch up and doesn't force you back daily although it does update every weekday.  But when you do visit, you find you've had a refreshing visit with a friend you've missed .. one who always has entertaining stories to tell over a frosty flagon of Dwarvish Brown.

As always, click the logo for the link.

The Festival Edition (Paaspop)

In a couple of weeks the first Festival of the year, Paaspop in Schijndel, opens their gates again. And of course I’m going to be there. Why? Because it is FUN! Yes, that is right, good music, beer, bad food and hopefully good weather is my idea of fun!

I noticed a lot of you lowlifes have an opinion about music and about the bands that pretend to play that music. Some of usefull opinions, some not so usefull opinions, but always entertaining. So i figured it might be time for an experiment: "Music to Die for, the Festival Edition".

I present to you "The List". A list of all the bands that are announced to play at Paaspop so far. So tell me scum... Which band should I go see and why?

Three weeks in a row? This can not be happening, there is too much joy coming our of my pores, I have to go to the toilet for a rainbow throw-up, four-leaf clovers are popping out of my Lucky Charms! Is this level of ecstasy even allowed in these mortals realms?

Yes, my friend, it is, as I present to you, for the third week in a row, Soundcheck! Now you actually have to know that for me, at the present time in Japan, it is presently 2:15am on March 7th. In other terms, wayy to early for my column. But is happens that tonight, is a great night!

In a nutshell, I have :

  • been contacted by a relatively known translation company in the world
  • found 5 new private English students
  • found a supervisor and place to do my Canadian University exam
  • possibly fixed my VISA problem (will be vague until later this week)
  • reconciled the relationship with the girlfriend pretty much back to normal and therefore am very happy.
To be fair, I am:

  • drunk on a pineapples/lemons/35%-alcohol/two-year-old home-made thingy that was in the back of my fridge
  • relatively 'tilted' from a good and safe source of 'enjoyment'
  • begged to write this column right now by Ghetto (hey, what can you do, I whine, he begs, make your pick)

I intend to let this be whatever it comes out to be, no alteration done!
So let's do this!!

This week, we receive on our boards someone who's sense of humor is underestimated. We have been making fun of him for quite a while here and there and never has he shown a sign of "all-right people, enough now". He took and still takes it all like a man, he's been flooding our chat with crap, he has earned the right to laugh about our Dear Lord Ghetto the Manslayer himself, that's right, here's your man, Morhdd!

The song is on the rhythm of Happy Birthday to You!
And then I realized, it ends with orhdd and I am completely screwed!
Screw you Ghetto!!!!
So I go back to the Guild Chat and ask him: how do you pronounce "Morhdd" and he says "how do I know kami (with no capitals)... more harddiskdrives?"
And Nargoth answers : "Bored"
And ensues a list of none-sense ending with weird sounds that more-or-less sound like 'ord'.......
...
FINE, watch the drunken art!

It is your turn, dear Morhdd,
You made Nargoth so bored!
You can't afford
Dodging my word,

Please don't feel like a turd.
Because as a completely drunk person under the influence of Ghetto, that is not my goal!

Blame the Lord on that one! ... Hey, "lord" could have fit in that song!! Oh well, too late...

And so, we embark on the magical ride that is Morhdd's conception. Now I have to admit, I watched this song to see if it would inspire me into writing something. Boy, did it!! This is gold!! I must have heard this song once or twice before, maximum, and it is PRICELESS with the video! Watch, my friends, as Jack and Diane are just DYING for each other!!

WOW! I can not cover this song! First of all, it takes a while before anyone can realize that the hands are clapping at the same pace the song is playing. No, really? Check again! Holy moly, Kami's right, they are! Mind blowing! And who ARE those babies and kids?!? Morhdd, is that you?!? At 0:39, there's a "Jack's gonna be AAAAAA" (pause pause) "football staaar" aaaaaaand that's it! You gonna make us feel like we're watching a movie trailer, punk? What!? Then we realize.... This dude is all over the video!! FAKE! TROLL!! LALALALA!! Little jackass! Morhdd at it's finest, isn't it!? "You can hide my face, no one can tell it's the singer's hair! We'll be fine, everyone's got that hair cut these days!".... 2012 bro, bet you didn't expect THAT!!

So anyway, the little boy grew up and got to 14 years-old. What happened then? He got his copy-cat moves. He looks like some big players, but the elite knows he's got it from superiors, he's not inferior, but needs to make it better, yooo, he's a believer:

Alright man, I'm not going to say anything about the fact the beat is a copy-paste from The Police's "Every Breath You Take". This is about a fellow bro losing life, Notorious B.I.G., nothing to laugh about. Morhdd knows the meaning of what it means to be part of a guild like ours. This is proof of it; say what you want, he's one of us now. Although I have to say, that dance at 1:17 and 2:29? Not sure, broooo. But whatever you think of the song, black or white or any other color, you have to admit, that is one Hell of a dedicated song, and this is how I hope TST is bound!

So our little mischievous boy got to 21 years old without going to the police station (for too long) and this is what was playing when he came back (home from a random place):

Hey, we do love women with short hair, don't we?... Ohhh screw it, who am I kidding, we DON'T!! Note this women: WE DO NOT LIKE SHORT HAIR!!!!!! However we say we like it, we'd much prefer it long!!! Seriously!!! JESUS!!! ARRRGGGHH!!!! I don't even know this song!!! Bleh bleh bleh!!!

And there you have it, drunken half-passed-out Kami LIVE with Soundcheck!! Incredible!! Don't feel bad Morhdd, later would have resulted in the same songs, but not as strong comments about it....

This was Kami on Wednesday, March 7th, 3h42 in the morning, logging off for my drunken sleep. Gnight all, and hopefully Ghetto won't force me to do this again!

Stay tuned, as next week we get Ciciz, the one and only, Nargoth's official girlfriend (that's already giving you a lot of unnecessary info) on the most awful stage of all, Soundcheck's!

Cheers!!! *hic*

P.S. Mordhh, do you have ANY idea how intense your name is to type when drunk?!? HUH?!?! ANY?!?!?
I misspelled it all over the place! Had to come back and fix it when Ghetto double-checked... Shame on me...

Dungeonparty: The Old Cemetery

So the first attempt at D39: The Old Cemetery was a disapointment. We only missed one player but the RNG was totally against us. For the second attempt we had 2 scum missing (BAD SCUM!!!) but our bad luck ran out for a change and we smashed it to pieces... And again, poor Quilp only got to watch us having fun.

One down 5 more to go! And Scum, potion up and check in! We need all of you. Becasue even one extra hit more at the lower levels might just mean we hit a more lucky RNG later on. If you haven't potioned up yet, do so now! There is still an easy 10% guild bonus to be won, so it will be totally worth it! With Bain still having 75% of his health and Quilp not even in action yet we definately can kick more dungeons this week, especially if we all check in. So let's make this happen.

Next stop: D40: Primordial Beasts!

And while we are all here anyway give your congratulations to Ninastar, because she hit level 300. Making her the 3rd lowlife to do so. Let's see if she can outgrow you all, by doing the personal dungeons she has saved up! Gratz Nina!

You all remember the lass goldilocks?
She's gone from bears to gnomes, the sly little fox.
You see, she met one last night
for some fun that's "just right,"
and it wasn't his porridge that knocked off her socks!

Unclear posting

Slowly, reluctantly, the sun rises over the horizon, bright beams cutting through smog and low lying clouds to dispel another gloomy night. As a signal to the throngs collected on the shore, the light triggers the mornings unmoorings. Dilapidated scows and heavily worn family heirloom ships struggle into the bay of the city, a milling mass setting forth to drag sustenance from unhealthily garbage strewn waters. No glory lays in the struggle to merely feed the families, the masses, no riches sought nor ambitions beyond life itself. In the cries of desperation and growls of famished bellies, little matters but what can be dragged forth to stave off another day's hungers.

As they dip into the slime of the bay, the worn and oft-repaired nets collect debris even more than they do small fish hiding from the jaws of the predators of the deeper waters. Eager hands draw forth what little bounty can be had, hastily scouring the detritus from the sustenance they seek, discarding the unsought back into the churning waters from which it arose. Discarded boxes and broken furnishings are lifted and tossed in a seemingly unending cycle until as occasionally occurs, a loud outcry is heard.

Minaes Finfoot, a billowing beast of a man burdened by an unfortunate birth defect not unheard of on these waste strewn shores, looks down at the uncommon contents of his net. In the much knotted netting lays entangled a laktofish, a bottomfeeding, spiny fish that is sought not for its meat but rather for its bones which can be enscribed well with scrimshaw. Seizing up the fish, Minaes smacks its head against the seat of his small boat to grant it a fast death that is his usual offering to the Sea god. As the long flat head of the fish cracks soundly, from its jaws is flung a small green gelatinous mass to fall wetly amongst Minaes' other few catches for the morning.

Laying down his prize, the begrimed fisherman moves to clean the mess from the limp side of a small blue bramson which he was looking to eat for his lunch, using a sodden sleeve to wipe the mass from the flesh. His arm touching the blob, Minaes howls as razor sharp teeth sink into his flesh before releasing him. With nary a thought, Minaes lashes out with his one good foot, smiting the blob a blow and sending it over the side of his small vessel to splash back into the water.
As he begins to work at his net once more, a small green form bobs to the surface several feet from him.

Very impressive progress over the last week scum. Hope to welcome you all to the 95% club soon (apart from Revliss, cause she already is a member).

Apologies folks, I am a little behind the times today.  Hope your Sunday was great and you weren't too disappointed if you noticed the column missing.

I've got some more links to check, but in the meantime, let me introduce you to a stripper named Heaven.  Because I love all you guys .. here you go.  While it looks much like Heaven is about to bare it all .. it's actually the last moment that Heaven is really herself,  a not-so-wise stripper with a heart of gold and a bad boyfriend.  Who may also be a pimp ... not quite sure on that score.

At any rate, Heaven has a melt down on stage, suffers some amnesia and has a li'l monologue on the way home .. she's discovered her identity by rifling through the pockets of her coat.

Oh, you had to know that with a leading lady named Heaven, there also had to be a mix up of religion .. the fight between good and evil.

Heaven does have her moment of epiphany .. and recalls that she is Avengelyne reincarnated.  And someone has stolen her old body and is doing bad, bad things with it.

I'm not normally into stories that involve good v evil in such an overtly religious fashion.  However, I think I'm willing to set that aside to watch how this story develops.  If it gets preachy, I'm outta there.  Until that point though, the plot is still in development and the artwork is more than a bit of fine.

Avengelyne updates every weekday.
